Welcome

Changing the perceptions and
image of a career in Housekeeping

Springboard is working with the housekeeping and accommodation management sector to help it address its image and perceptions of a career in the industry.  The issues are huge that are facing the sector and action needs to happen NOW!

The current issues that face the Housekeeping and Accommodation Management sector:

  • Most vocational subjects in the UK focus on food preparation, cooking and service
  • Growing skills gap and over reliance on Eastern Europeans
  • Recent changes to Visa Regulations
  • Housekeeping is not always thought of as a desirable and worthwhile career options
  • Little understanding of its importance, breadth, variety, responsibility and its impact
  • All creating a severe shortage of housekeepers across UK

What to do now?

Following the three conferences, below are some simple ideas on what you can do to help change perceptions and image of housekeeping:

  • Become a housekeeping Ambassador
  • Tell 10 people about the conference
  • Lobby your GM to take notice of the campaign and get them to support it
  • Nominate someone in your team to become an Acorn in 2011
  • Build links with schools, colleges and universities
  • In the next few weeks, Springboard will publish its blue print following the three Room to Change conferences which will outline the action plan for a careers campaign to attract more home grown talent into this sector!

We need your support! We have Room to Change, so lets start to change!
